Adelaide Symphony Orchestra

The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra (ASO) was founded in 1936 as the South Australian Symphony Orchestra. It has since become one of Australia's leading orchestras. The ASO's mission is to perform the highest standard of symphonic music to enrich the cultural and artistic life of all South Australians. It has done so through exceptional music performances, education, and community engagement.
The ASO performs over 100 concerts annually, including providing orchestral support for the State Opera of South Australia and for Adelaide performances of the Australian Ballet, community concerts, regional activities and broadcasts on ABC Classics. They have collaborated with renowned conductors, soloists, and artists over many decades. The ASO has performed internationally in countries including China, Korea, Singapore and in the USA, where it performed at Carnegie Hall in 2009. In 1998 and 2004 the ASO garnered international attention for its performances of Wagner’s ‘Ring Cycle’.
Over the years, the ASO has made many recordings, including albums featuring the music of Australian composers and collaborations with musicians including Ben Folds, Tim Minchin and The Hilltop Hoods, whose 2007 release of The Hard Road: Restrung was certified Gold. The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra have received multiple awards, including Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) and Helpmann Awards.
