The Audreys

Inducted 17 November 2023

The Audreys are an Adelaide band, formed in 2004, whose music is known for its introspective and poetic lyrics, soaring vocal harmonies, and eclectic blend of folk, pop, and country influences.

Founding members Taasha Coates and Tristan Goodall first met in 1997 while studying at university.  After finishing their studies, they moved to Melbourne, performing as a duo, before returning to Adelaide and establishing The Audreys.   The original line-up comprised Taasha Coates (lead vocals, melodica, harmonica & ukulele, Tristan Goodall guitars & banjo), Cameron Goodall (guitar, bass guitar & backing vocals) and Michael Green (violin & vocals).  In 2005, the group self-released an Extended Play CD entitled ‘You & Steve McQueen’, garnering critical praise as did their debut album, ‘Between Last Night and Us’ in 2006.  It included the singles ‘Banjo And Violin’ and ‘Don’t Change’ and received the ARIA Award for Best Blues and Roots Album.  Further critically acclaimed albums followed, including ‘When the Flood Comes’ (2008) and ‘Sometimes The Stars’ (2010), for which they again won ARIA Awards for Best Blues And Roots Album, and ‘Til My Tears Roll Way’ (2014).  The band’s albums have consistently made the ARIA Top 100 Albums Chart. Along their journey, Cameron Goodall and Michael Green departed and Toby Lang (drums) and Lyndon Gray (double bass) joined.

The Audreys have won numerous awards, including multiple ARIA Awards and Australian Music Prize nominations. They've also performed at numerous festivals, including WOMADelaide, Bluesfest, The Falls Festival and Big Day Out.  In addition, they have toured the USA, Canada, UK, France and Russia.  Founding member Tristan Goodall passed away in July, 2022.  Under the leadership of Taasha Coates, The Audreys continue to perform and record.
