The Zep Boys
Inducted 18 March 2022
The Zep Boys were formed in 1986, initially with the intention a few shows in tribute to Led Zeppelin but, such has been their enduring appeal, they continue to perform.
The original line-up of the group comprised Rob Pippen (lead guitar), Alexander Krstic (bass guitar) – Tony Lavis (drums) and Vince Contarino (vocals). John Zak (drums) and Warwick Cheatle (bass guitar) joined shortly thereafter. Over the years, many musicians have passed through the band’s ranks including Paul Kaiser, Steve Williams, Danny Leo and, more recently, Tzan Niko, Jack Stevenson and Julian Perotta.
The Zep Boys are known for their energetic live performances, the band being equally home playing unplugged acoustic gigs to concert halls and outdoor venues with 50,000 plus crowds. Key to the band’s success has been their attention to detail.
In July 2005, The Zep Boys began performing with orchestras, commencing with fellow Hall of Fame inductees, The Adelaide Symphony Orchestra at the Festival Theatre. In January, 2007 the band gave an acclaimed performance at the Sydney Opera House with a 35 piece orchestra. In 2017, The Zep Boys toured the UK and Europe, playing 17 cities, highlighted by performances at the London Palladium and Hammersmith Odeon.
The Zep Boys' continue today, their success having inspired many other tribute bands that have followed in their footsteps.
